It is another Thanksgiving away from home but this one is by far the most difficult one ever. I tried to get involved in the Thanksgiving preparations so I would not dismiss the day from my mind yet, but it is not the same when I am not with my family. We prepared some turkey breasts, ham, and smoked beef with all the traditional plates served during the festivities making it bearable for a minute or two but my eyes filled with tears as soon as we started the prayer. The Chaplain asked us to think of past Thanksgivings and my mind could not stray away from imagines of my children sitting at the dinner table waiting to get their turkey and looking forward for their desert—probably bought at the store because their poor mother can cook up a storm but cannot bake to save her life.
I sat there and pondered on the things that I am thankful for and the things that I should be thankful for. I am thankful to be alive, I am thankful that I have three beautiful wonderful children that will bring nothing but great things into this world. I am thankful to have a family that misses me and has not forgotten me. I am thankful to have friends that have shown me the true meaning of friendship and I am thankful that at least once in my life I have known the true meaning of being in love and all the sacrifices, joy and greatness that it encompasses.
I am thankful that my parents are alive and that my siblings— and I—are better than they were a few years ago. I am grateful that I have learn to learn the lessons life has tried to teach me and I am grateful that my journey will continue to test me, challenge me, and teach me from the mistakes that I might make. I am grateful to be alive and I am grateful I am not made of stone.
I could continue to write all the things I am grateful for but I think that all I need to say it that I am grateful…
