Meanwhile....Back in the U.S....

While I am here smelling the wonderful scent that only Iraq can emanate, lots of exciting things are happening in the U.S. that somehow relate to “us” the soldiers. Let’s talk about some of them…

• Back in the U.S., some “person” decided to walk around with medals that he did not earn. So, while “some” do have to work hard to earn a medal while in combat, some people can just pick up the shiniest version of it at a clothing and sales and make it a joke. Nicely done….
  
  
• Back in the U.S, in Texas—go figure—a salon for teens called Club Libby Lu had a contest named Club Libby Lu "Hannah Montana Rock Your Holidays Essay Contest." The contestants had to write an essay and the winner would receive a makeover and concert tickets for the over-rated teen star Hannah Montana. The irony of the story is not the unnecessary attention given to the teen star but the crazy things that people did to win the contest.
  
  A woman from Garland, TX had her daughter write an essay about her Dad dying in Iraq. The problem with this story is just that…it was all a story. I do not think I have to explain to you how perverse and conniving her actions were; it is obvious. I am not going to target the mother because the media has done that already but I will say this; what is wrong with our Country?
  
  It is not just this woman’s actions, it is the fact that Americans are so detached with the pain that military families are experiencing it makes a mockery of a soldier’s death. One cannot compare the loss of a cousin to the incredible and irreplaceable loss of a father or a husband. We ought to be ashamed because this is truly a disgrace.
  
  
• Back in the U.S., the Miss America contest took place in Vegas, NV. Where do I start? I will start by suggesting that if the pageant contestants do not want to be viewed as mindless dolls, the organization should consider staying away from the celebrity gossip questions and encourage the contestants to keep their answers relatively intelligent. For example…one of the “girls”—I believe it was NC—was asked why she thinks people say that the Country is heading in the wrong direction and what she would do to change it. Her answer had to do with Lindsay Lohan and her drunkenness…WTF? What about the war? What about the economy? What about foreign policy in general? Trade? Racism? Corruption in DC? Or just stick with what you guys talk about all the time…world peace, poverty and all of that….
  
  Then….there’s Miss Utah…who makes her intro statement “coming from the state with the highest birth rate”….ok….how is welfare going over there? Anyway, this is the girl called the GI Jill, believe me, I have been in the Army for 16 years, this part timer is just that…a part timer but either way... So she is representing the Army, really? For your information, not every woman in the military is a damn tomboy and being a tomboy doesn’t mean that you cannot walk in hills or act like a lady when the time calls for it.

It is not her fault,--maybe—she is a smart girl—maybe—and she tried something new but do not patronize the military people by adding a 16th semi-finalist—to the traditional fifteen—just to accommodate GI Jill and get brownie points with the military. Moreover, please…do not do push-ups when you do not make the next round….please…it is embarrassing. It is HOOAAH! Not HOORAH Mr. Miss America Host, get it right! And Jill….you would have had a better chance if you did not have that hideous posh spice hair cut, that is a trendy bob style that does not say much about femininity or originality …maybe next time…

Therefore, the point is that back in the U.S. there are people representing the military that are a far cry to what a soldier really is. Maybe the media should get it right for once…
